Alan Aubrey de Vere Beauclerk (1954-2009)

Alan Aubrey de Vere Beauclerk, BA Hons, PhD, of Oswestry, Shropshire, descendant of Charles II and Nell Gwynn, died 15 May, 2009, aged 55. He was b 1954, son of (Amelius) Aubrey de Vere Beauclerk (b 1924), of Oswestry, Shropshire, by his wife the former (Sydney) Frances Thomas, dau. of D. C. F. Thomas; and brother of Eleanor Frances de Vere Beauclerk, b 1950.

Alan was a great-great-grandson of Charles de Vere Beauclerk (1836-82), who was a natural son of Admiral Lord Amelius Beauclerk, GCB, GCH (1771-1846), of Winchfield House, Hampshire, scion of the Dukes of St Albans.

Julia Margery Morison Canning, who died 6 May, 2009, at Little Bedwyn, Marlborough, Wilts, was the wife of the Hon Spencer George Stratford De Redcliffe Canning (b 12 Feb 1953), son and heir of the 5th Baron Garvagh. She was the former Julia Margery Morison Bye, 1st dau of Col. Francis Clifford Edward Bye, of Twickenham, Middx, and married Mr Canning 14 Jul 1979. She leaves issue, a son, Stratford George Edward de Redcliffe Canning (b. 7 Feb 1990), and 2 daus, Cordelia Louise Morrison Canning (b. 1985), and Florence Canning (b. 1988).

Funeral to take place at St. Michael's Church, Little Bedwyn, Wiltshire at.— 20th May, 2009.

David Heaton-Ellis (c1969-2009)

David P. Heaton-Ellis, who died 10 May, 2009, aged 39, from Motor Neurone Disease, was a scion of the LG family of Heaton-Ellis, of Wyddiall Hall, was b circa 1969, yst son of Lt-Col Peter Richard Heaton-Ellis, OBE (b 31 Aug 1923), head of the LG family and the late Mrs Peter Heaton-Ellis (nee Prudence Elizabeth Woodbine Parish, scion of that LG family?), of Chittern, Wiltshire. David married Sophie O. Cook, youngest daughter of Mr Nicholas Cook and Mrs Josephine Cook, of Woodnewton, Northamptonshire, and was father of a son, Geordie.

David's eldest brother, Michael James Brabazon Heaton-Ellis, b 22 May 1958, died from motor neurone disease, aged 42.

Funeral at St Lawrence Church, Ecchinswell on Friday 22 May 2009.

Her maternal grandfather, Edmund Gray Stuart Truell (1878-1950); m.14 Aug 1912 Vere Frances de Merlie Bellingham Somerville (1890-1976). Edmund was a son of the Rev William Henry Augustus Truell (1843-1934), by his wife, the former Lady Cornelia Stuart (d 1933), scion of the Earls of Moray.

The peerage (cr 1935) now devolves upon his Lordship's son, the Hon (William) Thoby Young, b 24 May 1957, who is married to the Hon Josephine Keyes, dau of the 2nd Baron Keyes, and has issue, inc a son, Archibald, b 7 Jun 1992.

The 3rd Viscount St Davids died 26 April, 2009, aged 70. His viscountcy, cr 1918, was but one of a string of impressive peerages and a baronetcy, viz: 3rd Viscount St Davids, of Lydstep Haven in the County of Pembroke (United Kingdom, let. pat. 17 Jun 1918); 16th Baron Strange of Knokyn (England, writ sum. 29 Dec 1299); 24th Baron Hungerford (England, writ sum. 7 Jan 1425/6); 22nd Baron de Moleyns (England, writ sum. 13 Jan 1444/5); 3rd Baron St Davids, of Roch Castle in the County of Pembroke (United Kingdom, let. pat. 6 Jul 1908); 15th Baronet, styled "of Picton, co. Pembroke" (England, let. pat. 9 Nov 1621). He was born Colwyn Jestyn John Phillipps, 30 Jan 1939, son of the 2nd Viscount St Davids (b 19 Feb 1917; d 10 Jun 1991), by his wife the former Doreen Guinness Jowett (d 19 Oct 1956); and was educated at Sevenoaks School; late 2nd Lieutenant, Welsh Guards; Lord-in-Waiting (Government Whip) 1992-94; Deputy Speaker House of Lords 1995-99.

He married 1965, Augusta Victoria Correa Larrain, dau of Don Estantislao Correa Ugarte, of Santiago, Chile, by whom he had issue, two sons, (i) Hon Rhodri Colwyn Philipps (b. 16 Sep 1966), mar. 6 Sep 2003 Sarah Louise Colyn Butcher, only dau. of Dr Peter Butcher; & (ii) Hon Roland Augusto Jestyn Estantislao Philipps (b. 9 Apr 1970).

The elder son now succeeds to the peerages and the baronetcy.

His Funeral will be held in St Davids Cathedral on Wednesday 6 May.

Hester Zia Elizabeth Burnett of Leys

Lavinia Margaret Burnett of Leys (nee Cox), wife of Alexander James Amherst Burnett of Leys (b. 1973), gave birth to a dau, Hester Zia Elizabeth, 11 April, 2009, a sister for Amaryllis Susan Rohays, who was b 24 November, 2006, and for Thomas Henry Amherst, b 11 February, 2008.
Alexander is the elder son of Mr James Comyn Amherst Burnett of Leys (b. 1941), and Mrs Burnett of Leys, of House of Crathes, Kincardineshire, and Lavinia is the elder daughter of Mr and Mrs C.A.F. Cox, of Leochel Cushnie, Aberdeenshire.

Alexander's father was born James Comyn Amherst Cecil, son of the Hon Henry Kerr Auchmuty Cecil (1914-42), scion of the Barons Amherst of Hackney, who married in 1938, Elizabeth Rohays Mary (who d. in 1993 having married secondly, 1944, Capt Sir Cecil Boyd-Rochfort, KCVO), only daughter of Major-General Sir James Lauderdale Gilbert Burnett of Leys, 13th Baronet, CB, CMG, DSO.

Alexander's father was, in 1966, recognized in the surname of BURNETT of LEYS, by Lyon Court. He married in 1971, Fiona Mercedes, second daughter of Lt-Col Harold Pedro Joseph Phillips, FRGS (who d. 1980), by his wife Georgina (now Lady Kennard), daughter of Sir Harold Augustus Wernher, GCVO, TD, 3rd and last Baronet [1893-1973], of Luton Hoo, by his wife, the Lady Anastasia [Zia] Wernher, CBE, [nee de Torby], elder daughter of Grand Duke Mikhail of Russia [1861-1929], by his morganatic wife, Sophia Nikolaievna, Countess de Torby, elder dau of Prince Nikolaus Wilhelm of Nassau, by his morganatic wife Countess Natalia von Merenberg [nee Pushkin].

Alexander Burnett of Leys is a nephew of the Duchess of Abercorn and the Duchess of Westminster.

David John Noel MacLeod

David John Noel MacLeod died at Dunblane, 25 April, 2009, aged 69. He was b 12 September 1939, the son of Sir John MacLeod (d 1984) by his wife the former Rosemary Theodora Hamilton Wills (d 1994), scion of the Barons Dulverton (cr 1929; Baronetcy cr 1897). He married Wendy Joy Cookson in 1972, and is survived by her and by three daughters. Funeral at Perth Crematorium, 4th May 2009.

Maxime de la Falaise 1922-2009

Maxime de la Falaise (nee Birley), who died 30 April, 2009, aged 86, became famous in the 1950s for her contributions to the worlds of fashion and food; in her colourful private life, she was also something of a social maverick.

She was born Maxine Birley, 25 June, 1922, dau of society portrait painter Sir Oswald Hornby Joseph Birley, MC, RA (1880 –1952), by his wife the former Rhoda Vava Mary Lecky Pike (LG of Ireland), and was sister of Mark Oswald Hornby Lecky Birley (1930-2007). She married (i) Comte Alain de la Falaise, by whom she had a dau, the model Loulou de la Falaise, and a son Alexis de la Falais; she married (ii) John McKendry, curator of prints and photographs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
