Lascelles/Cartlidge engagement

_. The engagement has been announced between the Hon Edward David Lascelles (born 19 Nov, 1982), third son of the 8th Earl of Harewood (b 21 Oct, 1950) (Peerage of the UK, cr 1812), of Harewood House, Leeds, West Yorkshire, by his 1st wife the former Margaret Rosalind Messenger (b 15 Apr, 1948), and Miss Sophie Emma Cartlidge (b 1986), daughter of Nigel G. Cartlidge (b 1954), by his wife the former Katharine A.C. Hall..

At a recent meeting of the Privy Council, HM The Queen gave her approval for the forthcoming marriage as is required under the terms of the Royal Marriages Act, 1772.

The Earl of Harewood is a 1st cousin once removed of the Queen, &c.

She was born 13 May, 1920, daughter of Capt Noel Henry Plantagenet Somerset 1885-1921, ( descended from the 5th Duke of Beaufort ), by his wife the former Helen Barbara Ormerod 1889-1952.. Unm. _. Henrietta Reid (nee Sitwell) scion of the Sitwell Baronets, and wife of Dickon F. Reid, gave birth to a daughter, Violet Louise, 4 February, 2014, a sister for Kitty Edith, who was b 1 July, 2011.

Dickon Reid is the son of the late Mr Michael Reid and of Mrs Michael Reid, of Burwash, East Sussex, and Henrietta is a daughter of the late Francis Trajan Sacheverell Sitwell (1935-2004), of Weston Hall, Towcester, by his wife Susanna Carolyn Cross, and sister of the current baronet.

HRH Princess Leonore Lilian Maria of Sweden, Duchess of Gotland (b 2014)

.__Princess Madeleine of Sweden, Duchess of Halsingland & Gastrikland (b 10 June 1982), younger daughter of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden (b 13 Apr 1946) and Queen Silvia of Sweden (b 23 Dec, 1943) and wife of Christopher Paul O'Neill (b London, 27 June, 1974), gave birth to a daughter, HRH Princess Leonore Lilian Maria, Duchess of Gotland, at New York, 20 Feb, 2014.

Mr O'Neill is the son of the late Paul O'Neill (d 2004), by his wife the former Eva Maria Walter. He is a half brother of Tatjana Schoeller, wife of (John) Henry Erland d'Abo (b 7 Oct 1953), scion of the landed family of that name, and a grandson maternally of John Henry Montagu (Manners) 9th Duke of Rutland.

Princess Madeleine is a great granddaughter of Princess Margaret of Connaught, and a great-great granddaughter of HRH The Prince Arthur Duke of Connaught & Strathearn (Peerage of the UK, cr 1874; extinct 1943), third son of HM Queen Victoria, &c.

Cdr Christopher Henry Fothergill, RN 1921-2014

_. Cdr Christopher Henry Fothergill, RN, who died 21 February, 2014, aged 92, was descended from the Earls of Radnor. He was b 15 Oct, 1921, son of Capt Henry Maclean Fothergill by his wife the former Lucy Bouverie-Pusey, scion of the Earls of Radnor, and married 6 Feb, 1965, Linda Kathleen Browne (b 2 May, 1930), a co~heir to the Barony of Braye (Peerage of England, cr 1529), dau of Claude Henry Browne by his wife Vera Cecilia ( a granddaughter of the 5th Baron Braye). Cdr Fothergill leaves 2 sons, Nicholas and Alexander. 

His elder son is destined to succeed as Baron Braye.

_. The Hon (John) Vincent Weir, scion of the Barons Inverforth (Baron UK, cr 1919) who died 15 February, 2014, aged 79, was late chairman of the Weir Group, and heir presumptive to his nephew, the 4th Baron Inverforth.

He was born 8 Feb, 1935, second son of the 2nd Baron Inverforth (1897-1975 ), by his wife the former Iris Beryl Vincent, and was yr brother of the 3rd Baron (1932- 1982). He was educated at Malvern, and was unm.

Gallia Sylvianne Eleanore Grimston {nee McDermott}, wife of the Hon Hugo Guy Sylvester Grimston (b 5 Nov, 1979), scion of the Earls of Verulam (Earl, cr UK, 1815), gave birth to twin sons, Lorcan Sebastian and Hector Sylvester, 31 January, 2014, brothers for Merlin Charles, who was born 5 Aug, 2010.

Hugo is the second son of the 7th Earl of Verulam (b 21 Apr, 1951), of Gorhambury, St Albans, Hertfordshire, by his wife the former Dione Angela Smith, Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, scion of the Smith landed family, and kinswoman nof HM The Queen, &c. 

Gallia is the eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs Keith McDermott.

_. Caroline E. Fitzalan Howard (nee Taylor), wife of Edward Michael Fitzalan Howard (b 1979), scion of the Dukes of Norfolk, gave birth to a daughter, Camilla Alice, 12 Feb, 2014, a sister for Ella.

Edward is the son of Colonel Thomas Fitzalan Howard, of North Elmham, Norfolk, by his 1st wife the former Penelope Jan Walters (now Mrs Jeremy Jones, of Low Marishes, North Yorkshire), and Caroline is a daughter of Mr Andrew Taylor, of Binham, Norfolk, and Mrs Anne Taylor, of Foulsham, 
Norfolk.

Edward is a grandson of the late Maj-Gen Lord Michael Fitzalan Howard (1916-2007), and a great-nephew of the 17th Duke of Norfolk, KG (1915-2002).

The 2nd Baron Moran, KCMG 1924-2014

_. The 2nd Baron Moran, KCMG, who died at King Edward VII Hospital for Officers, London, 14 February, 2014. He was 89.

He served as British Ambassador to Hungary and Portugal and was British High Commissioner to Canada, 1981-84.

Lord Moran was the son of Dr Charles McMoran Wilson, Winston Churchill's personal physician, who was ennobled in 1943.

Richard John McMoran Wilson was born 22 Sept, 1924, son of the then Dr Charles Wilson by his wife the former Dorothy Dufton, who died in 1983.

Succeeded to the barony on his father's demise, 12 Apr, 1977. Elected to the House of Lords in 1999.

Married 29 Dec, 1948, Shirley Rowntree Harris, dau of George Harris, MC, of Bossal Hall, co York, by whom he had issue, 2 sons, James & William, and a daughter, Juliet.

The peerage devolves upon his elder son, the Hon James McMoran Wilson, who was born 6 Aug, 1952, who is married to a scion of the Barons Polwarth, and is father of 2 sons.

Funeral at St Cewydd's Church, Aberedw, Sat 22 Mar.

The 7th Viscount Hardinge 1960-2004

_. The 7th Viscount Hardinge (Peerage of the UK, cr 1846), died suddenly, 11 February, 2014. He was 54.

Andrew Hartland Hardinge was born 7 January, 1960, a younger son of the 5th Viscount Hardinge (1929-1984), by his 1st wife, the former Zoe Ann Molson, and succeeded to the family honours on the death of his elder brother, Charles, 6th Viscount, who died 18 Jan, 2004, aged 47.

The 7th Viscount married in 1990, Sophia Mary Bagnell, dau of Capt William David Armstrong Bagnell, by whom he had issue, 2 sons, Thomas and Jamie, and one daughter, Melissa.

The son, Thomas Henry de Montarville Hardinge, who was born 19 June, 1993, now succeeds as 8th Viscount, and 10th Baronet (cr 1801).

Sir Jeremy John Fortescue Boles, 3rd Baronet 1932-2014

_. Sir Jeremy John Fortescue Boles, 3rd Baronet, died 15 February, 2014, aged 82.

The baronetcy was created in 1922 for Dennis Boles, Conservative MP for Wellington Div of Somerset 1911-18, and for Taunton 1918-21.

He was born 9 Jan, 1932, son of Capt Sir Gerald Fortescue Boles, 2nd Baronet, who died on active service, 9 Apr, 1945, by his wife the former Violet Blanche Hall Parlby, scion of that landed family.

He married 1stly,16 Apr, 1955 (div 1970), Dororthy Jane Worswick, by whom he had issue; married 2ndly, 1970 (div 1981)Elizabeth Gildroy Shaw; married 3rdly, 1982, Mrs Marigold Aspey (nee Seckington).

He is survived by three children of the 1st marriage, a son, Richard Fortescue Boles, who was born 12 Dec, 1958, who now succeeds to the baronetcy, and a yr son David (b 1967), and a dau, Sarah Jane (b 1956).

_.Maj. Henry Irvine-Fortescue, who died 15 February, 2014, aged 91, was a scion of the Earls Fortescue (Earl, GB, cr 1789). He was born in 1922, a son of Lt-Col William Grenville Irvine-Fortescue, MC {and Bar}, Royal Engineers (1897-1980), by his 1st wife the former Joan Evelyn Mary Powell; married 1stly, Bridget Unity Awdry (d 1981), daughter of Colonel Edmund Portman Awdry, by whom he had issue; married 2ndly, 1983 (div 1987) Anne van Gruisen. Funeral at St Thomas's Church, Delph, Saddleworth, Lancs, 28 Feb.

Lady Mary Cecilia Clayton 1917-2014

_. The Lady Mary Cecilia Clayton, who died 13 February, 2014, aged 96, was a first cousin of Her Majesty the Queen.

She was born Mary Cecilia Leveson-Gower, 12 Dec, 1917, first child of the Hon William Spencer Leveson-Gower (1880-1953), a younger son of the 2nd Earl Granville (Peerage of the UK, cr 1833), by his wife the former Lady Rose Constance Bowes Lyon, GCVO (d 1967), an elder sister of HM Queen Elizabeth, consort of King George VI.

In 1939 her father succeeded his brother as 4th Earl Granville. The 4th Earl, KG, KCVO, was sometime Gov of N Ireland; Vice~Admiral. who was created KG in Dec, 1952., and who d. 25 June, 1953.

Lady Mary's younger sibling was the late 5th Earl Granville 

She married 7 July, 1956, Samuel Wittewronge Clayton, yr son of Brig-Gen Sir Gilbert Faliingham Clayton, KCMG, KBE, CB, by whom she had issue a son, Gilbert (b 1958), and a daughter Rose (1960).

A Service will be held at the Royal Chapel of All Saints, Windsor Great Park, Friday 7 March.

Angela Galliers-Pratt 1926-2014

_. Angela Galliers-Pratt (nee Cayzer), who died 18 Feb, 2014, aged 87, was a scion of the Cayzer baronets (Bt, UK, cr 1904); she was born 6 Mar 1926, daughter of Sir Charles Cayzer, 3rd Baronet (1896-1940), by his wife the former Beatrice Eileen Meakin (d 1981); married 19 Apr, 1950, Anthony Malcolm Galliers-Pratt, by whom she had three sons, Rupert, Nigel and Anthony. Her grandson, George Galliers-Pratt, recently married in a high profile society wedding, Arabella Musgrave. friend of the Duke of Cambridge, &c.

The funeral service is at Kinpurnie, Angus, Monday 24 Feb.

Sir Jonathan is the elder son of Commander Sir Miles Rivett-Carnac, 9th Bt, RN (1933-2009), by his wife the former April Sally Villar, now April, Lady Rivett-Carnac, of Alresford, Hampshire, & Reiko is a daughter of Setsuko Kiuchi San, of Tokyo, Japan. 

The baronetcy was created in 1836 (UK). Sir Jonathan is a brother of Lulu Guinness.

_. Major-General David Boyd Alexander-Sinclair of Freswick, died 7 Feb, 2014, aged 86. Old Etonian Alexander-Sinclair was born 2 May, 1927; was commissioned into the Rifle Brigade in 1946. He was GOC 1st Armoured Div from 1975, and Chief of Staff, UK Land Forces in 1978. His last military role was Commandant of the Staff College, Camberley, 1980-82. Married 1958, Ann Ruth Daglish, by whom he had issue, 2 sons and one daughter. Service of Thanksgiving at St Peter's Church, Hammersmith, London, 26 Feb, 2014.

Michael Duncan Alec Cunningham-Reid 1928-2014

. Michael Cunningham-Reid, who died at his home at Karen, Nairobi, Kenya, 10 Feb, 2014, was a nephew of Edwina Countess Mountbatten of Burma.

Michael Duncan Alec Cunningham-Reid was born in 1928, son of Capt Alec Stratford Cunningham-Reid (1895-1977), by his first wife the former Hon Ruth Mary Clarisse Ashley (later Lady Delamere), daughter of Wilfred Ashley, 1st and last Baron Mount Temple, by his wife the former Amalia Mary Maud Cassel, heiress daughter of the millionaire financier Sir Ernest Cassel.

Cunningham-Reid's aunt Edwina Ashley married Lord Louis Mountbatten in 1922.

He married firstly, in 1954, Mary Bilyard-Leake, by whom he had issue, a son, Duncan, and a daughter, Fiona; married 2ndly, 1964 Dorothea Helen Walton; m.3rd 1974 Dorothie Elfride Blumenkamp.

The funeral will take place at Hippo Point Estate, Lake Naivasha, Kenya, Sunday 16 February.

Gawain Basil Rowan Hamilton (1884-1947), by his wife Phyllis Frances Blackburn, who was a daughter of the Hon Robert Blackburn, styled Lord Blackburn (d 1944), a Lord of Sessions in Scotland, by his wife the former Lady Constance Frances Bowes Lyon (1865-1951), aunt of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, daughter of the 13th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne, &c.

He married 4 Sept, 1956, Mary Bridget Blakiston-Houston (b 1932), scion of the baronets of that name, dau of Lt-Col John Blakiston-Houston (1898-1984), by his wife the former Lettice Arden Stobart, by whom he had issue, Catherine (b 1957), James Hamish John (b 1961), and Patrick Gawaine (1964-2000).

The funeral is at Stenton Church, Dunbar, East Lothian, 18 Feb.

Mrs Pandora Delevingne is a daughter of Sir Jocelyn Edward Greville Stevens, Knt, CVO, the publisher, by his 1st wife the former Jane Armyne Sheffield, LVO, sometime Lady-in-Waiting to HRH The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, and scion of the Sheffield Baronets (cr. 1755).

She was born Barbara Irene Salt, 11 Oct, 1922, scion of the Salt Baronets (Bt, UK, cr 1899), a dau of Maj-Gen Harold Francis Salt, CB, CMG, DSO (1879-1971), by his wife the former Phyllis Dulce Cameron (who d. 1965), and married 1stly, 1941, Maj John De Grey Tatham Warter, MC, who was killed in action in 1942; married 2ndly, 1946 (div 1972), Victor William Henry Sefton-Smith; married 3rdly, 1975, as his 3rd wife, Sir Ralph Regnault Millais, 5th Baronet, descended from the artist honoured with a baronetcy by Queen Victoria, who died in 1992.

Lady Millais leaves issue from her second marriage, Ewan, Susan and Lucy.

The funeral takes place at Chelsea Old Church, Thursday 13 Feb.

Piers Anthony Weymouth Wedgwood, 4th Baron Wedgwood 1954-2014

_. The Lord Wedgwood, who died 29 Jan, 2014, from cardiac failure, in Philadelphia, USA, aged 59, was the 4th baron in the peerage of the UK (cr 1942).

Piers Anthony Weymouth Wedgwood was born 20 Sept, 1954, son of Hugh, 3rd Baron (1921-70), by his second wife, the former Jane Weymouth Poulton.

Succeeded to the peerage on his father's demise, 18 Apr, 1970, and attended the House of Lords until the purging of the bulk of the hereditary peers in 1999.

Married 30 May, 1985, Mary Regina Margaret Kavanagh Quinn, daughter of Judge Edward Quinn, of Philadelphia, by whom he had one daughter, the Hon Alexandra Wedgwood, who was born in 1987.

The heir presumptive to the title is the fourth baron's second cousin, Antony John Wedgwood, who was born 31 January, 1944.

Swire/Chisholm marriage

The marriage took place 1 Feb, 2014, at the Church of St Mary the Virgin & St Mary Magdalen, Tetbury, between Merlin Bingham Swire (born 1973), scion of that landed family, son of son of  Sir Adrian Christopher Swire, Kt (b. 1932), of Sparsholt, Oxon, by his wife, the former Lady Judith Compton (b. 1943), & Laura Caroline Chisholm (born 1978), daughter of Mr Colin Chisholm, of Owlpen, Gloucestershire, by his wife the former Hon Caroline Elizabeth Wyndham (b 1951).

Merlin Swire is a grandson maternally of the 6th Marquess of Northampton, DSO (1885-1978), and Laura Chisholm is a granddaughter maternally of the 1st Baron Egremont, MBE (1920-72)..

Pamela Duncan Smith

_. Pamela Mary Duncan Smith, who died 1 Feb, 2014, aged 91, was mother of Mr Iain Duncan Smith, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, and the Conservative MP for Chingford and Woodford Green.

The former Pamela Summers, a ballerina, she married Group Capt W.G.G. Duncan Smith in 1946. Their son, Iain, was born in Edinburgh, in 1954.

Her son married the Hon Elizabeth Fremantle, daughter of the 5th Baron Cottesloe, &c.

The funeral is at St Albans Chapel, Winslow, Buckinghamshire, 8 Feb.

Tarka William Cameron Gilroy (born 2014)

__Georgina Victoria Gilroy (nee Orr-Ewing, b 1974), wife of Caspar A.E.P. Gilroy, gave birth to a son, Tarka William Cameron, 1 Feb, 2014, a brother for Orlando and Iona.

Caspar is the son of Mr Desmond Gilroy and Mrs Tara Williams, of London, and Georgina is the daughter of the Hon Sir (Alistair) Simon Orr-Ewing, 2nd Baronet (b. 10 June, 1940) and Lady Orr-Ewing, of Fifield, Oxfordshire.

Patrick Anthony Charles Wolseley (born 2014)

_. Mary-Kate Wolseley (nee Quinlan), wife of Capt Stephen Garnet Hugo Charles Wolseley, Irish Guards, scion of the Wolseley Baronets, gave birth to a son, Patrick Anthony Charles, 26 Jan, 2014, in the Sultanate of Oman, a brother for Nicholas.

Capt Wolseley is the son and heir of Sir Charles Garnet Richard Mark Wolseley, 11th Baronet (b 16 June 1944), of  Staffordshire, by his 1st wife, Anita, Lady Wolseley, of Petworth,
West Sussex, and Mary-Kate is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Anthony Quinlan, of Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.
